Leeds business saves 55 per cent on electricity with support from Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership

Pop Art Media Group, an independent outdoor advertising company based in Leeds has received funding from Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to install LED lights in illuminated lamppost poster panels, saving 55 per cent in electricity.

Through the LEP Resource Efficiency Fund, Pop Art received a 25 per cent grant to the value of £1,086 to replace their traditional fluorescent tube lighting with LED lights in 73 lamppost panels around Leeds. The new lighting reduces the electricity rating from 320 Watts to 144 Watts per panel, saving the business an estimated 19,272 kWh a year, equating to a saving of £3,276 on its electricity bills and 5.5 tonnes of carbon.

Roger Marsh OBE DL, Chair of LEP and NP11 said:

“Through the LEP Growth Service, we are continuing our clean growth support for businesses to help deliver zero carbon for the City Region by 2038.

“I’m delighted that with resource efficiency funding, the LEP has helped businesses like Pop Art to minimise their impact on the environment and save money on their energy bills.

“For any companies looking to become more resource-efficient in the way they do business, I’d encourage them to get in touch with the LEP and access the support and funding available.”

LED’s consume significantly less energy than traditional lighting, reducing businesses operating costs and carbon emissions.

Rick Wade, Managing Director of Pop Art Media Group said:

“According to new government statistics, in England, almost a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions (18pc) come from businesses. LED lighting is an investment in our environment and our business. A small change like this is easy for small businesses to carry out, saving money on bills and the hassle of continually replacing lights in the long run.”

Between November 2016 and December 2019, the Resource Efficiency Fund, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) helped over 700 small or medium-sized enterprises to lower energy usage, reduce water and waste costs, and minimise their impact on the environment. The LEP provided over 370 free resource efficiency audits and funded 160 projects to save businesses £663,000, 7.7million kWh of energy, and 2,422 tCO2 every year.

The LEP’s support to help businesses continue with the newly launched REBiz programme, funded by ERDF that provides advice and financial support to help small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) save money, material resources and carbon.
